Unit Fraction

A unit fraction represents one part out of the total parts.

For example,

Remember: The numerator of a unit fraction is always 1.

If you want to eat 1 slice out of a whole pizza, you always eat a unit fraction.

Like & Unlike Fractions

Like fractions, they have the same denominators.

For Example,

2/5, 1/5, 4/5. All have the same denominators (bottom number).

Unlike fractions, they have different denominators.

For Example,

2/7, 1/5, 4/9. All have different denominators (bottom number).

Left image shows like fractions, whereas right image shows unlike fractions

They have same numerator but different denominator. They are still Unlike fractions.

Remember: To identify like or unlike fractions, we check the denominators not numerators.
