Place Value Model
A place value model is a visual way of representing (showing) numbers.

We use unit blocks only to represent numbers between 1 and 9.
A rod is used to represent tens. 10 unit blocks make 1 rod or 1 tens.
These models are used to form different numbers. For example:
Unit blocks
Unit blocks are used to form any number from 1 to 10.

Rod(Tens block)
A rod(tens block) is made up of 10 unit blocks together.


To make numbers like 20, 30, 40, etc., we just repeat using rods.

We can show any number visually using place value model as shown below.
